Gallantology

Gallant is 24-year old tenor from the suburbs of Columbia, Maryland, with a stunning, piercing falseto that’s quite frankly hard to tie back to his petite frame. The NYU Music graduate released his debut album ‘Ology’ Wednesday 6th April to feverish anticipation, both by critics and the fans lucky enough to see him perform by South by South West a few weeks before. It’s a more classically soulful counterpart to his debut EP ‘ Zebra’, a dark deeply ‘alternative’ album released in 2014. Almost sure to be Grammy nominated, ‘Ology’ features almost haunting lyrics touching issues from love, to suicide, solitude and even cosmoly, Ology’s potent force is still Gallant’s voice and powerful falsetto. Certainly one of the most impressive voices of our generation.

We love ‘Ology’ cause it is timelessly soulful, but firmly rooted in a modernistic, even futuristic, sound. It is refreshingly different from any of the music out today, but sonically draws in even avid pop-music fans. This is one to listen to the whole way through, but popular tracks are lead single ‘Weight in Gold’, ‘Talking to myself’, ‘Bourbon’, and ‘Skipping Stones’ featuring Jhene Aiko, the beautifully elegant single predicted to be the song that’ll launch him mainstream. Listen to the full album below. Get to know the man behind the music in this illuminating feature by Noisey. It’s an interesting read that sheds light on the depth of Gallant’s music. Any lucky ones amongst you with Coachella tickets have a chance to experience the man live.
