Gotts Street Park & Pip Millett with soulful goodness on ‘Got To Be Good’, Reuben James, Essosa, Aby Coulibaly, Track of the Week

Gotts Street Park, Pip Millett Got to Be Good

The musical collective, Gotts Street Park, recently announced that their hotly anticipated debut album On The Inside, set for release October 13th. From the album is a new single featuring soulfully talented singer-songwriter Pip Millett on the track Got To Be Good.

Production as we have come to expect by Gotts Street Park at this point, is soulfully earthy and effortlessly captivating from the start. Punchy yet groovy percussion, merged with piercing bass lines and heavy drum patterns create an eclectic backdrop throughout. Overall, musically Got To Be Good provides Motown-esque nostalgia whilst remaining fresh and contemporary.

Infused within this is an impassioned vocal display by Pip Millett. The performance on the song immerses itself fittingly within the sonics of Gotts Street Park whilst allowing Pip’s subtly smooth singing to take centre stage also. Lyrically, Pip infectiously draws concise imagery throughout, touching on themes of the importance of self-love, self-worth as well as the desire to want to be loved. On the whole, Pip Millett yet again shows why she holds one of the most revered voices within soul today.

When speaking on the track Gotts Street Park explained, “Got To Be Good, came together pretty fast. Whenever we’ve been in the room with Pip, it’s pretty free and fruitful. When a song comes together like this, we don’t overthink it or alter the final take too much and just hope to have the same energy come through to the listener as we felt in the room creating it. The effortless flow of the process is most certainly felt on the single despite it only being just over 2 & a half minutes long.

The visual showcases the rhythmic nostalgic vibe of the track. Slow cut shots alongside dark and theatrical lights add to the reflective vibe of the track being delivered by Pip’s spellbinding tone. Despite it’s minimalist aesthetic, the video sufficiently depicts the emotion of isolation and solitude very well.
