Kadeem Tyrell, James Vickery 'since you've been gone' - Exclusive Premiere Interview

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Kadeem Tyrell & James Vickery unite on a nostalgic duet for the ages, ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’

In an exclusive premiere interview, Kadeem Tyrell unlocks the beauty and hardship of love on ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’, his duet with James Vickery.

When two rising R&B icons collaborate, we expect magic. Kadeem Tyrell and James Vickery have not disappointed with their new offering. Pulling on the heart strings with their soothing cadence, ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ is a must-add to your R&B playlists.

The sonic blend of Kadeem’s warm, soulful tones and James’ blissful falsetto will take you on a euphoric ride. This track is definitely for all the lovers. ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ sends you on a romantic journey with melodic changes that will make you replay over and over again.

Moreover, the lyrics are very relatable. Truly, there is an organic sense of vulnerability in every verse. We are extremely excited to watch these two unique artists grow and carry the torch for R&B in the UK.

… speaking with James, we both came to a conclusion that we love to make baby-making music, music that is on the softer and smooth side of R&B

Kadeem has offered us some momentous collaborations such as Let Me Know (The Cypher)’ and ‘Creeping‘. His versatility is impeccable which comes as no surprise as the Battersea born and bred artist emerged from iconic British garage and Hip-Hop Collective ‘So Solid Crew’. Following on from Kadeem’s debut album, ‘As Time Goes By‘, we were excited to see what was next and we are looking forward to more music in 2023.

Similarly, James Vickery’s recent EP, ‘Sheet Music’ is one that stopped us in our tracks. This standout opener, ‘Only U’ is enchanting and the EP is satisfying as a whole. This South London R&B singer has moved from to strength. From his memorable COLORS session to his stunning debut album, ‘Songs That Made Me Feel’. When we heard Kadeem and James were collaborating we were on the edge of our seats.

The story behind ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’…

The track was honestly inspired by the chords which I feel is usually the case for me… But speaking with James, we both came to a conclusion that we love to make baby-making music, music that is on the softer and smooth side of R&B. [This] then lead to making a song about missing your lover after they’ve been gone and wanting them back and letting them know how you feel since they’ve been gone.

James had actually hit me up on Instagram. Since I’m already a massive fan of his voice and music, it was a no brainer that it had to happen as soon as possible. Working with JV was super easy and we naturally became friends… we get along really well. He is such a pleasure to be around and extremely funny.

The duet is reminiscent of the great eras of R&B duet collaborations. Is it born from any nostalgia?

Most definitely, we are both super aware of that era and of course fans of it so the plan was to always bring back that collaboration feel.

I went to a place where R&B is truly loved so instantly I felt the love… Overall, the experience helped me grow

Kadeem Tyrell on his recent experience living out in L.A …

I could type all day about how much I took from that experience, how important it was to me and my career so far. But to sum it up in a few words, I would say firstly it’s important for all R&B artists to remove themselves from the UK for a while and go create somewhere else for a little bit. Learning about the music culture of R&B on other land helped me to grow and see things in a different light.

I went to a place where R&B is truly loved so instantly I felt the love… Not to say I don’t feel it here, but R&B isn’t respected as much in the UK as it is in the US. I took away… knowing that nothing is out of reach if I really want it even if it’s not where I call home. Overall, the experience helped me grow.

Where Kadeem Tyrell would listen to ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’…

I would definitely listen to it in a room that has high end speakers. Dolby atmos if possible or in my car.

Three words Kadeem would use to describe his music…

Smooth, vibey and timeless.

For anyone just entering the chat and discovering me now, welcome to the KT Family 🙂
