The KTNA Cover Me Blue - Exclusive Premiere Interview

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: The KTNA’s stunning live rendition of ‘Cover Me Blue’

Our favourite Sisterz of Darkness have been busy to say the least and they have just released some captivating visuals for their latest single ‘Cover Me Blue’. After the success of their exceptionally brilliant EP Resurgence, we were excited for what was to come next from the KTNA. What we can confirm is that this sinister, yet angelic tune did not disappoint! We are delighted to premiere this stunning live acoustic rendition of ‘Cover Me Blue‘.

The KTNA’s latest single commands attention and grips you with every word. The captivating, rock-infused Neo-Soul track was produced by the sisters, Hope and Millie, taking on the realities of depression. These sisters have made their mark for their candidness discussing mental health and again‘Cover me Blue’ presents a metaphor for depression. ‘Cover me Blue’ offers comfort and solace in knowing that on our darker days, we are not alone. The KTNA explain that after lockdown, their sound has been evolving as they progress through womanhood. Their sultry and moody sound contrasts more light with gloom and it’s truly a pleasure watching them evolve through music.

the KTNA

The concept is depression and I wrote this song as a metaphor for depression.

These Kenyan-born and Manchester-raised girls are paving their own path. They somehow manage to bring light to dark topics. We cannot recommend their live performance enough, you will find that it is more of a live experience than a show and this video is a testament to that. You can catch the KTNA bring their magic to the stage at Colours, Hoxton on 25th November 2022. There will be no better way to witness this new KTNA Era.

The KTNA’s concept for ‘Cover Me Blue‘…

“It sounds as if you were talking about a person, maybe a lover, somebody that has upset you but actually the whole song is a metaphor for depression. That’s no shock as we are the sisterz of darkness!

When I think of the colour blue, it makes sense, the colour blue represents to me, sadness.”

On The KTNA self-producing the instrumental for ‘Cover Me Blue’…

Hope: We produce most of our songs… And I actually started making this beat first, the beat came first and I really wanted to have something melancholy. We really love the early 2000s. Remember David Gray and Dido? That nostalgia and melancholy captured in that time and it was so angsty, so ‘get out of my room mum!’. That was the vibe behind the production. After I made the beat, it was only a small loop at this point, then I started writing the chorus. That’s how we usually write songs.

Millie: First time, I ever heard the song, Hope had written the beat, the chorus and the first verse. I was blown away. It was absolutely amazing.

The symbolism of the ‘Cover Me Blue‘ artwork…

The ‘Cover Me Blue‘ artwork is some of my favourite artwork. We painted our whole bodies blue, it was a big big undertaking but I’m really proud. We really wanted to just embody being all blue and being sad.

The KTNA Cover Me Blue - Exclusive Premiere Interview

If you like listening to the KTNA, then you are in a community of people who are all like-minded, that all know how it feels to be sad.

Where to listen to ‘Cover Me Blue’…

“If I could listen to ‘Cover Me Blue‘ for the first time anywhere, I think I would listen to it in the rain, with my headphones, somewhere kind of moody.”

Which of their songs would they put in a time capsule….

Hope: ‘MBD‘… when I first wrote that song, I was in such a bad place. It was so authentic, it was literally seeping out of me

Millie: ‘Summer Never Dies‘… I feel like it’s a timeless record. One of those ones you can play at anytime, anywhere and people would appreciate it and make em’ feel good.

For new fans of the KTNA…

Millie: “We speak very candidly about the way we feel, about our mental health, about how it feels to exist as a human being in today’s society. I think our main message is to help people feel less alone out there.”

Hope: The other thing is if you’re a KTNA fan, then I think you’re in a community of people who are like-minded and know what it feels like to be sad. And it’s really lovely to be in a loving environment especially when it comes to taboo stuff like mental health. We always get messages after our shows saying, ‘I met the most wonderful people at your show’.

What’s next for the KTNA?

There’s definitely more music on the way from us. We’re independent artists so everything we do, we fund it. It’s quite difficult to be an in dependent artist, things take a bit longer but we are working on it. Me and Hope are like song banks basically and we’ve got beautiful new stuff coming your way.
