One of the rising stars hailing from Birmingham, UK’s soul scene is SIPHO. Back with new material since his EP, SHE MIGHT BLEED, released in Feb 2022, with the single ARMS.
ARMS is a captivatingly soulful track which sonically explores gospel melodies merged with piercingly emotive vocals from SIPHO. His performance is vividly intense which not only evokes impeccable emotions, but also provides a sense of raw openness from start to finish. Accompanying this, is the vulnerability in his lyrics that Sipho has become known for, tying into the song’s overarching theme of open accountability.
The track sees SIPHO delve into the complexities of relationships and the knock-on impact it can have on us all. “ARMS is a continued exploration of the complicated relationships we create as a generation – therefore the sensation, not the responsibility. It’s something we’re gonna have to face up to or drown in the problems of the next decade ahead of us.”
ARMS cuts deep with thematic soulful production matching the all round intensity of the track. From the melodically gospel-esque piano led production, to its punchy drum patterns. The track is full of life and raw expression that resonates.
The visual equally compels. Directed by Cal Barnes, the cinematic offering is executed brilliantly. Striking scenes of disruption, confusion and outcries of mixed emotions are on full display, making for a video that truly adds another layer of depth.
