EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Xavier Omär gears up for new project with a fresh sonic direction on ‘Tarantino’

Xavier Omär is back with new essence! ‘Tarantino’ is his latest release before his new EP, b l u r r, and it’s different from anything we’ve heard from him before. It is experimental and playful, yet soulful like Omär always is. A guaranteed head bopper.

Xavier Omär is known for his sweet melodies and effortless harmonies. Omär’s last project, ‘If You Feel’, was a testament to that. Project’s success established Omär as one of R&B’s leading men, a reputation that makes new music from him much anticipated.

Feelings 4 You’ was the first single off the upcoming EP. The gospel-esque harmonies on that reel you in. The song strikes a beautiful balance between the power of the lyric and melody, as it exaggerates the relationship between being honest with ones true emotions and the risk of this.

Each component of the new releases, Feelings 4 You and Tarantino demonstrate Omär’s incredible artistry. Omär works with a sonically creative team. Notably, Sango and Stwo co-produced ‘Tarantino‘. Omär is very vocal about Sango’s contribution and how he pushes Omär’s creative direction. We’re itching to hear the rest of the project as we’re not quite sure what to expect… ‘Feelings 4 You’ drawing from gospel and Soul, while Omär looks to Trap’n’B for inspiration on Tarantino.

Much like Omär’s music, his musical journey is quite distinct. Omär wrote his first song in his family basement and then eight years later moved to be with his Dad in San Antonio, Texas. He applied for American Idol in Houston which resulted in elimination in the preliminary round. After this Omär had a pivotal introduction with Sango (who’s also worked with Frank Ocean), leading to a series of groundbreaking projects.

Tarantino is unique as it is not written from Omär’s perspective, it is written from his Dad’s. Xavier’s ability to story tell from a different narrative proves his competence as a writer. We caught up with Xavier Omär about Tarantino, the EP and more.

Tarantino‘ the story…

Tarantino is really a steal your girl anthem inspired by my dad. That’s a hell of a sentence but so is this; when my dad met my mom, she was already engaged. 39 years later and my parents are still going strong. I wanted to try to speak from his confidence in a modern way.

Xavier Omär on writing from a different perspective…

“I try to take a broad view of the situation and pick a few points of emphasis. Best case scenario, the song comes out well and I drop it. Worst case, I use the idea at another time which is the case for this song. This is the second attempt at telling my parents story.”

I wanted to step in my Dad’s shoes to tell the story in a modern way

Omär on his new sonic direction on Tarantino & his new EP…

Honestly, I just try whatever Sango says I should try. Almost every new style I do is because he suggests it to me. I’ll write to any sound that inspires me and Tarantino is a bop.

The EP and ‘if You Feel’ are completely different worlds, completely different times of life. I’m not saying the new music is a far departure sonically, but I am saying that’s it captures a different time of life. A time of transition, being unsure, a newly independent artist, a new father, moving to a new city. My brain was scrambled and my vision wasn’t as clear, yet I still have to provide and create. I did my best to create as normal while also getting that feeling across.

His influences…

James Blake, Pharrell, Chris Martin & Gospel Music.

A song Omär wishes he wrote…

The Dress by Dijon. It’s so simple, I was so mad at myself for not thinking of it. He’s incredible.

If you’re new to Xavier Omär…

Thanks for giving my music a chance. Sorry if I’m a bit all over the place, I express myself in a rather wide sonic range for an R&B artist. If you enjoy it, follow me online and share with your friends. I’m forever grateful.
