The stupendously talented rapper / actor / creative, Little Simz this week revealed the first single ‘Introvert’, taken from her upcoming album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. The album set for release September 3rd will be her fourth and if ‘Introvert’ is anything to go by, this will be another top tier project.
‘Introvert’ is more than a single, it’s a multi-layered expansive piece of music. From its expansive orchestral led structure it immediately makes you take notice sonically. Added to this, Simz does not let up lyrically with her engaging observations merging an array of complex topics. Themes of fear, frustration, and introspection on both a personal and more universal level are touched out throughout with Little Simz doing exactly what she does best.
Heavy bars such as “I’m not into politics, but I know it’s dark times, Parts of the world still living in apartheid” as well as “Project with intention straight from my lungs/I’m a black woman and I’m proud one” are merely only a few examples of the lyrical density on show. Added to this is also the appearance of Cleo Sol on the hook, adding thematic soul to proceedings.
As amazing as the track is, it further comes alive in its vivid visual, directed by Salomon Ligthelm. Visions of social unrest, anarchy, confusion amongst much more are artistically amalgamated throughout the 6 minute long track. A truly exceptional piece of art. We cannot speak highly enough of Little Simz as an artist, and ‘Introvert’ again only further cements this.
