Madison McFerrin is an independent singer / songwriter based in New York. Residing in Brooklyn, she introduced her soulful take on acapella to the world when she self-released her first EP, Finding Foundations: Vol. 1. Upon its release DJ, Gilles Peterson, snatched up her track, No Time to Lose, for his Brownswood Bubblers compilation. Her release was also complimented by The New York Times, they described her it as “wonderful vocal dexterity, deftly swerving from sharp, clearly enunciated staccato bursts to fluttery, free-form melismata.” Her distinctive acapella and electric sound has been featured in episodes of Comedy Central’s Broad City and HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness. Her single, TRY (produced alongside her brother, Taylor McFerrin) premiered in her debut COLORS session, and has already racked up over 1M views and landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. In declaring her one “of Brooklyn’s most fearless singers”, DJ Booth remarked that the project was “fragile and overwhelmingly beautiful”. Madison released her next EP, You +I, in 2019 with 6 tracks and no features.
During these unprecedented times due to COVID-19, the cancellation of her shows has pushed her to write and produce more singles. Via Bandcamp she has released timely new music such as Stay TF Inside, which was featured on VICE News, and most recently debuted her first foray into beatmaking with the We’ll Be Okay – Beatpack.
Notable performances including Pitchfork’s Rising Artist showcase at Northside Fest, OctFest, Paris Avant Garde showcase and inaugural Midwinter Event at the Art Institute of Chicago fans of Moonchild, Pip Millett and Kaytranada would enjoy Madison’s acapella and electric love-child.
