IYAMAH (pronounced I-yah-mah) moved to London at 19, and since then, has dedicated her life to making music like the music that inspires her. She shaped and formed this inspiration into a distinct sound she’s termed ‘rootsy soul’. ‘Rootsy Soul’ is a rich combination of reggae, jazz, neo-soul and hip-hop, steeped in the essence of Soul. Raised in Brighton, the singer / songwriter grew up listening to African drumming and reggae beats. When she moved to London she began to experiment with her sound, through the exploration of her roots. In 2018, Iyamah released her first single, Cryptic Love.
In the same year, Iyamah toured alongside Masego on his European tour and Mahalia on her UK tour. She’s quickly become one of UK Soul’s most distinctive and sought after voices. She achieved a sold out show at her EP launch, at The Curtain, within 24 hours. IYAMAH has performed at illustrious venues like the Jazz Cafe, The Lexington and Cross The Tracks festival. With ‘Truth EP2’ on its way, Iyamah continues to bring her listeners along on her journey of self-discovery and identity.
