Get to know…

In the conversation of UK’s upcoming talent, even in the age of COVID Bellah’s momentum has been admirable. The North London singer-songwriter with Nigerian roots, has a certain way of floating through classic R&B instrumentals and engaging listeners. In 2020, the talent has released an EP and two singles, all while at the cusp of her inauguration into albums and chart takeover.

Having started her interest in music with an assorted pot of Michael Jackson and the honeycomb melodies of Brandy, Destiny’s Child and Lauryn Hill, the first stages of her love for R&B grew. Bellah’s talent for songwriting manifested during her creative writing classes at school and her love for poetry.

As her career blossomed and having written her first song at 17, she graduated to writing for industry names such as Conducta, Liv Dawson and Courage. Her writing style is reminiscent of Def Jam’s Bibi Bourelly, Nija Charles and PARTYNEXTDOOR, authentic but melodic.

A hit-maker, Bellah has the ability to story tell and conduct her songs like conversations with an old friend. This idea is at the heart of her upcoming EP, The Art of Conversation, which she says is her “most mature release to date”. Big Dreams Empty Pockets is a conversation between her and music, while Cause U Can addresses her struggles with Sickle Cell Disease.

Bellah’s experience in the industry includes  work with producers like Ari PenSmith (GoldLink, Doja Cat) and Sons of Sonix (Krept & Konan, Ariana Grande). Her discography has been admired by Complex and BBC 1Xtra, who made her debut single their ‘Track Of The Week’.

The direction of her sound ventures between a hit written for Travis Scott amalgamated with the sound of the golden R&B era from Brandy and Ashanti. The talent’s 2020 single, Something U Like is a sexed-up jam with Bellah’s pitched-up vocal, it’s also based on her experiences with an overly-affectionate guy.

As a Londoner born in Enfield, Bellah wants to show the world that R&B fans need not look to the states for “world-class R&B artists”. Her music has been championed by Spotify, and featured on Spotify official playlists, Who We Be, This Is How We Do It, R&B UK, Galdem Queens and Fresh Finds: The Wave. A true star in the making.

Sounds like…

Nostalgic 2000’s instrumentals flow alongside a distinctive high calibre voice. Bellah has the ability to transcend from hip-hop flux beats to sexed-up and seductive melodies. All while sporting “world-class” and “influenced R&B”.

In their lyrics…

Conversational and tell a story. Bellah has the ability to speak to you like one the girls telling you the latest on her relationship or experiences in dating and love. Includes mature themes and relatable honesty.

Listen if you’re feeling…

A real women’s takeover on your playlist. if you are interested in the future of UK R&B, or you’re still waiting for him/her to text back.
