So it seems this week is all about some of the leading ladies of Soul music. We’re excited to be spotlighting Bassette, a London-bred, uber cool, refreshing talent who recently released a fire single with Artist / Producer / DJ, Joe Hertz (more dets below). Plus we’ve got the juice on the comebacks from JoJo, Emeli Sande and Rachel Kerr, as well as, one of the best viral hits we’ve ever seen.
Getting to it…
1. It’s all about Bassette right now
Full disclosure, we kinda got to the Bassette party a wee bit late. Her debut E.P. Midnight Sound, a collection of candle light jazz-inspired Soulful, but infectious tunes was released in August 2015. We only discovered the singer last week when a track titled Playing for You, produced by Joe Hertz with vocals from Bassette hit the net. Bassette’s gloriously sultry-smooth vocals carry what is a tenderly beautiful song and we just needed to see if this singer had more music out.
Thankfully, Midnight Sound is an 8-track E.P and since then we’ve been taking in all things Bassette. Bassette is of Bermudan heritage and relocated with her family to the UK aged 5 where she’s lived in both Sheffield in the North of England and the capital, London. She began singing aged 11 when she was given a karaoke machine for Christmas. She started uploading videos to YouTube aged 14 to great reception.
A true child of the ’90s, she lists a range of musical influencers from Lauryn Hill to India Aire to Destiny’s Child and even The Weeknd. Indeed, Midnight Sound has elements of the dark, broody melancholy of The Weeknd’s music, the jazzy poetic sound of India Aire and the R&B ‘tude of Lauryn Hill and India Aire. Listen below and keep up on the latest with Bassette via her Twitter account.
