It’s been a… different year, but music’s been the real MVP. Our faves kept putting out #goodmusic and we found some new faves. Our round-up of the best albums of 2020 soon come, but in the meantime, a playlist of the 50 best R&B, Soul and Jazz songs of 2020.
Teyana Taylor – Bare Wit Me
As far as artistic creativity goes, it’s hard to find anyone in Soul and Jazz that matches up to Teyana Taylor. Her ability to be an extremely well-rounded artist in every shape of the word is often slept on but we at TBP are here to give all her flowers. A perfect example of this shown on the single Bare Wit Me where she self-directed the visual.
H.E.R. – Damage
H.E.R. at this point needs absolutely no introduction. In October she delighted us with the visual to a monster of a track Damage. Using a sample of Herb Alpert’s 1987 single Making Love In The Rain as the backdrop, Damage is easily one of the R&B standout tracks of 2020.
Tiana Major9 – Same Space?
One of the rising stars of 2020 has been Tiana Major. It’s been brilliant to watch her growth in recent years as well as seeing her receive high praise across the Atlantic also having recently signed to Motown Records.
Napoles – Slowzy
An artist that cut through very well in 2020 is Napoles. The soulfully talented artist caught our ears on her first single Slowzy which has been stuck in rotation all year ever since.
Wizkid – Smile
In a year that truly tested us all Wizkid’s Made In Lagos album literally cut through like sunshine on a rainy day. Captured magnificently well on the visual for the lead single from the album Smile.
