Backstage on tour with Mereba, she took us behind the scenes for a really insightful conversation. We talked about her second album, The Breeze Grew A Fire, how her sound came together, industry friendships, inspirations and more
On 19 September 2025, Mereba brought her The Breeze Grew A Fire tour to London’s KOKO. Her contemplative sophomore album with the same name was released on Valentine’s Day, 14 February. The album explores true love in the various forms Mereba has experienced it, specifically decentering romantic love. Mereba describes single, Phone Me, as a “homie anthem” – a homage to the grounding love of friendships. Similarly, Counterfeit, the first track and single from the album, is about finding yourself after being lost in the sauce of comparison and ego. Crucially, for Mereba, her sisters, childhood and industry friendships have been the safe ground where she’s rediscovered herself.
So in our Tour Diaries interview with Mereba, we discussed all this backstage before she blew us away with a stunning powerful performance. Our conversation ranged from the themes on the album, to how her sound blending R&B, folk and hip hop came together and more. Enjoy the conversation below.
