25 Best R&B Albums of 2025

2025 gave us a lot to live with. A lot to feel through. And for us, music, as always, turned into the place where all of that emotion went to settle. Across R&B, Soul, Soulful Rap and the spaces in between, 2025 was an incredible year for music.

These albums shaped our year at The Blues Project. They carried mood, intention and honesty. Furthermore, they reminded us why we return to music not just to listen, but to connect.

25. FLWR CHYLD – InsydeOut

Producer / songwriter, Flwr Chyld invites you into a smooth, funk-fuelled space on InsydeOut, where warm soulful melodies and intimate vocals do all the talking. The vibe is calm, reflective and easy to sink into, built for moments when you just want to slow things down.

The production is stellar but stays light and tasteful, with funky basslines, airy harmonies and plenty of breathing room. Nothing feels rushed or overdone, letting each track flow naturally.

What makes InsydeOut stick is its mood. It holds a steady emotional groove from start to finish, making it a soothing, replay-worthy listen for those who enjoy music that feels personal, warm and unforced.

24. GREENTEA PENG – TELL DEM ITS SUNNY

Greentea Peng leans deeper into her blend of jazz-infused soul, neo-psychedelia and warm, free-flowing R&B, creating a world that feels bright, fluid and effortlessly on brand. Her vocals glide between airy, grounded and hypnotic, giving the whole project a kind of sun-kissed ease that makes you sink right in. 

On her second album, she puts together many influences. From dubstep to hip hop to reggae. Loose basslines, dreamy chords and earthy textures give the album a natural warmth, as if every track was crafted to spark light without losing depth. All of which whilst her never shying away from pivotal moments of clarity when touching world and political affairs.

What gives this project its real charm is how confidently Greentea Peng holds the centre of her universe. With lyrics that flow with honesty and intuition, TELL DEM ITS SUNNY feels like a fresh evolution of her style. Brighter, freer and more rooted in self. It’s an album that feels good for the spirit, bringing energy, calm and colour all at once.

23. DURAND JONES & THE INDICATIONS – Flowers

You could truly believe you have been transported to the Motown era of the 1950/60 with this album. Durand Jones & The Indications have created a timelessly soulful album on Flowers which is just heartwarming from start to finish.

With its tender and nostalgic aesthetic, this album still somehow plays out befitting for 2025 with subtle modern soul infused on top of its old school soulful feel. Flowers merges rich soul arrangements with gorgeous harmonies and timeless songwriting. The album’s chemistry throughout just feels like sunshine on a summer’s day.

22. Justin Bieber – SWAG

Justin Bieber leans into a slick mix of pop and R&B, serving smooth harmonies, feel-good hooks and that signature swagger. The whole project has a glossy bounce to it, playful, melodic and instantly easy to enjoy.

Influenced by his indie R&B collaborators, Dijon and Mk.gee, the production has a raw quality. Yet it’s catchy, with punchy drums and bright synths keeping everything moving. It feels lightweight in the best way, flowing like a playlist made for late drives, hangouts and moments when you just want something fun and rhythm forward.

SWAG hits because of its cohesion and charm. Justin knows exactly how to set a mood, cool, catchy and full of charisma, without ever overcomplicating the formula. It is a project you can run back without thinking twice, powered by personality, groove and pure feel good energy.

21. WRETCH 32 – HOME?

Wretch 32 delivers arguably his most thought provoking album on HOME? The album floats between sounds ranging from reggae influences to gritty hiphop with softer glimpse of R&B elements.

All of which provide a brilliant canvas for Wretch’s witty rap style that touches on life themes of self-worth, purpose, love and belonging throughout as the title suggests. HOME? is an album that remains rooted in vivid lyrical storytelling that resonates, making for a project that will genuinely live and grow as you do with it.

20. DESTIN CONRAD – Love On Digital

Love on Digital is Destin Conrad’s official debut album, but only one of two albums he released in 2025. Destin Conrad has been one of R&B’s most consistent voices over the past few years. And Love on Digital is yet another evolution of his sound. Leaning into delicious, glossy 00s R&B production with a modern R&B flair, it chronicles modern digital dating in a flirty, playful and sexy way.

19. LOADED HONEY – Love Made Trees

Loaded Honey crafted a harmony-rich, organic retro-soul project filled with soft emotion and warm production touches. Loaded Honey are a duo, J Lloyd and Lydia Kitto, from the group, Jungle. Each track on Love Made Trees plays out as its own unique scene from a movie that you just don’t want to end. The album holds this intriguing knack of flowing effortlessly with each track pulling you in more.

Intertwined with this, is delicately assorted production which never feels stale or redundant. The album has a wondrous balance between soothing yet vibrant musicality, paired with vocal melodies that remain strikingly groovy.

18. SAILORR – FROM FLORIDA’S FINEST

SAILORR’s FROM FLORIDA’S FINEST takes the prize for the R&B album with fun, youthful energy. SAILORR taps into a fresh blend of new-age RnB, bringing energy, melody and raw personality in a way that feels unmistakably hers. There’s a warm, fun energy to the sound, mixing smooth vocal pockets with the kind of effortless hooks that stay with you.

The vibe stays sunny and bass-heavy, but there’s also a softness and soulfulness woven through the production. It gives FROM FLORIDA’S FINEST a glow that feels modern and rooted at the same time.

17. GIVEON – BELOVED

Giveon leans into his emotional depth with controlled, expressive vocals that feel heavier with each line. Added to this is warm production that wraps each track around like a frame.
Overall, the vibe is cinematic, slow-burning and introspective. Beloved is an R&B album which connects through its maturity, offering a collected but honest look at heartbreak, love and belonging. And now its got a Grammy nomination for its efforts.

16. MICK JENKINS & EMIL – A MURDER OF CROWS

American MC / rapper, Mick Jenkins’ lyrical sharpness meets UK producer, EMIL’s atmospheric production in a way that feels dark but captivating. As expected penmanship runs rife throughout this album alongside EMIL’s production that only assists to amplify Mick’s raw and distinctly hitting lyrical ability.

An album that sits perfectly within the realm of those who appreciate diversely soulful production and rappers who show up to rap.

15. BOY SODA – SOULSTAR

BOY SODA blends contemporary R&B, classic soul and alt-soul into a colourful burst of personality and emotion. The melodies feel bright and youthful. The vibe throughout is fun, expressive and rhythm-forward. SOULSTAR stands out for the freedom in the writing and the way he leans fully into his creative identity.

14. CHRONIXX – Exile

After a 8 year gap between his debut album Chronology, Chronixx blessed us with his sophomore album Exile. Jam packed with thoughtful introspective writing, deep rooted reggae and refined musicianship which merges reggae with other branches of soul. His voice feels steady and sure, whilst touching on themes of world affairs, love and growth to name a few. The project connects through its peaceful strength and forward-thinking approach, making for a genuinely standout album.

13. MEREBA – The Breeze Grew a Fire

Mereba’s second full length album blends folk, R&B, touches of hip hop and gentle storytelling with a calming presence. Her tone as per usual feels like a warm light throughout with airy and soothing production throughout. Her ability to create softness that truly touches the soul makesThe Breeze Grew a Fire glow from the inside out.

12. SAULT – 10

Renowned experimental group SAULT dropped their twelfth album 10 in the first quarter of the year. The project offers layered vocals, soulful grooves and an earthy energy that feels communal throughout. Furthermore, its a rare case of music that pays homage to Michael Jackson, while feeling original and fresh.

The vibe is rhythmic, spiritual, textured and full of intent. Rooted deeply in 80s R&B, 10 stands apart via its experimental depth whilst ensuring every track feels full of life and sonical movement.

11. SILAS SHORT – LUSHLAND

Silas Short offers warm guitars, soft grooves and gentle vocals that invite you to slow down.
The vibe on his debut album, LUSHLAND, is dreamy, mellow and soulful. Definitely an artist from the school of D’Angelo, Silas sonically plays between the lines of contemporary R&B with more traditional Neo-Soul whilst providing a true sense of his artistry via vivid storytelling. LUSHLAND holds its charm in its simplistic approach, yet nothing is simple about the vibe of heartwarming soul it leaves you with.

10. VENNA – MALIK

Venna delivers a lush blend of jazz, soul and warm saxophone-led arrangements that feel genuinely handcrafted. The vibe is elegant, soothing and deeply melodic.
MALIK connects through its mood, turning jazz into something modern, soulful and endlessly replayable. Added to this is a strong list of featured artists who befittingly fit each track with intention.

9. LITTLE SIMZ – Lotus

Little Simz returns with sharp writing, clear perspective and soulful production that suits her perfectly. The pen is focused and felt throughout. The vibe is grounded, thoughtful and rich with intention, something she has truly become renowned for at this point. That said, Lotus feels like another chapter in her evolution, steady and self-assured without forcing anything, and standing firm within her creative integrity.

8. KOJEY RADICAL – Don’t Look Down

Kojey Radical brings bold creativity and fearless expression into every track. His transitions between rap, spoken word and melody feel seamless. The vibe is theatrical, expressive yet full of life.

There’s a richness to the way he builds each moment. From the sharpness of his storytelling to the elegance in his vocal delivery. The production mirrors that range too, moving between soulful pockets, dramatic builds and rhythmic bursts that keep you locked in.

This project stands tall because of how confidently Kojey shapes his artistic universe both lyrically and sonically. It feels fully realised, driven by intention and imagination, giving you a clear window into just how dynamic he is as an artist.

7. KNUCKS – A Fine African Man

As we have come to expect, Knucks brings smooth flows, soulful beats and sharp storytelling that continues to separate him within the sphere of UK rap. His thoughts feel grounded and crafted. A Fine African Man brings a vibe that is stylish, reflective and quietly confident. The album leaves an impact through the way Knucks storytells identity, culture and growth with introspective clarity.

6. DESTIN CONRAD – Whimsy

Destin Conrad keeps things light, melodic and effortlessly catchy while still writing with intention. His voice moves gently but confidently. Tapping into the strong themes of jazz inspiration, the vibe is dreamy, soft and easygoing.
Whimsy shines through its balance, giving you something you can float to whilst remaining solely rooted in soul.

5. DANIEL CAESAR – Son of Spergy

Son of Spergy is Daniel Caesar’s fourth album. And yet again, Daniel reinvents his sound to create a tenderly beautiful album. Daniel Caesar opts for more stripped-back acoustic production, using gospel-influenced vocals to explore personal themes with clarity and warmth. The vibe is intimate, mellow and reflective, like a quiet conversation you think about later. At times, the lyrics feel almost too raw drawing from experiences in love and family.
This project is evidence that Caesar continues to grow, willing to stretch himself while staying rooted in soulful emotion.

4. ISAIA HURON – CONCUBANIA

For R&B lovers through and through, Isaia Huron’s CONCUBANIA is probably the best contemporary R&B album of 2025. Isaia Huron provides a warmly textured album flittered in soft vocals, minimal production that still manages to pack a mean punch of soulful melodies. Every detail throughout CONCUBANIA feels carefully placed, giving the music a quiet confidence that draws you in without ever needing to be loud. The vibe is nocturnal, dreamy and intimate, almost like it was made for late nights when everything slows down.

3. FREDDIE GIBBS & THE ALCHEMIST – Alfredo 2

Freddie Gibbs skates effortlessly across The Alchemist’s dusty, sample-infused heartwarming beats. The chemistry between the two is sharp and instant. Added to this is a vibe that is gritty at times whilst balanced in confidence and lyrical wit. On the whole, Alfredo 2 hits with the precision of two artists who know exactly how to bring the best out of each other.

2. KOKOROKO – Tuff Times Never Last

Kokoroko bring their signature mix of Afrobeat, Jazz and Soul with stunning detail in every arrangement. On Tuff Times Never Last, the musician collective choose bring together these genres with R&B melodies and vocal arrangements for irresistible records. The chemistry across the band is undeniable. The album is joyful, uplifting and rooted in community. The collective have spoken on choosing to create a record about choosing joy. Delivered just in time for the summer, this album will create sunshine wherever and whenever. The magic throughout the album sits in how the music beams with resilience and togetherness, making it feel alive even in its quietest moments.

1. ANAIIS – Devotion & the Black Divine

French-Senegalese singer-songwriter based in London, Anaiis delivered our favourite album of the year. Expertly evading the ‘sophomore curse’, Devotion & The Black Divine is in fact her magnum opus. The album is full of emotion, warm textures and honest storytelling. Her voice feels both tender and powerful, with an irresistible sweetness and clarity.

The themes and lyrics are spiritual and atmospheric, almost like stepping into her private reflections. The orchestral and choral arrangements also help deliver this spiritual, euphoric atmosphere that has earned the album comparisons to Solange’s A Seat At the Table. Devotion & the Black Divine is a sensational album that blends vulnerability and intention. Anaiis has claimed her place as one of modern R&B / Soul’s shining stars.
