Mac Ayres has long been one of the most consistent R&B / Soul artists of the past few years. Quietly but steadily sharing music that is refreshing, thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyable. He’s now five albums in since his 2017 debut, Drive Slow. But on 27 October 2023 at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, we got to witness that Mac Ayres is also a phenomenal live performer. Guitar in hand and backed by a virtuoso set of musicians, Mac took his London fans on rousing journey through his catalogue.
Backstage before the show, we sat down with him for a conversation about his life, family, inspirations and what touring post pandemic has been like. It was great to see what a warm and lovely human he is. On stage at the sold out London show, this was also obvious to the crowd. As he shared his heartfelt gratitude and shed tears at the love the crowd was showing him, a regular guy from Long Island.
