An Ego Ella May show is an immersive experience. See some of the highlights and what you can look forward to if you see Ego Live
We had the pleasure of going to one of Ego Ella May’s shows at the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden. If we had to choose one word to describe the show, it would be ‘ethereal’.
In the idyllic settings of a large garden, Ego delivered a stunning performance. The crowd reminisced, laughed and were truly present. Even the birds were singing in the background.
Ego’s stripped back performance allowed the audience to hone in on her stunning vocals and the backing singers helped create this soothing atmosphere where every note could be heard.
Highlights from Ego Ella May’s show
1. The Introduction
Ego opened with ‘YoYo’ which instantly set the tone for the rest of her set. At the end of the song she says ‘I’ll build a community’ and this is what everyone felt like they were a part of.
The beauty was held by her accompanist and backing vocalists. Her set proved that less most definitely can be more.
2. Quintessential background
Hidden in the back of a garden was the stage. The scenery complimented Ego’s performance and the natural habitat added to her idea of community, mentioned above. She encouraged the crowd to sing along which allowed there to be no wall between the crowd and herself. A sense of unity could be found by all.
3. Ego’s Stories
There was one particular break that stood out between songs. Ego talked about the makings of ‘Girls Don’t Always Sing About Boys’. She often listens to the radio and found a lot of the songs are about love and relationships. This song was her offering to a wider conversation.
There were many other anecdotes that she gave but you will have to see her live to find them out…
