Formerly known as Sevana Siren, Jamaican singer, actress and model Anna-Sharé Blake recently released her first piece of music for almost two years. And now she’s back dropping new music as Sevana.
Brand New, presented by ColorsxStudios, is co-written and produced by Kelsy Gonzalez of R&B band, The Free Nationals and her latest single. Guided by Gonzalez’s airy bassline, and caressed by her own backing vocals, Sevana’s gorgeous vocal cadence is drizzled over ‘Brand New‘, yet familiar funky production that evokes nostalgia. She creatively places listeners between the ‘then and now’ of classic R&B and Neo-Soul, with distinctly contemporary feels. This ‘Brand New‘ session is a dazzling watch from start to finish.
The Westmoreland-born performer has released numerous EPs to date. The most recent, Be Somebody, birthed the hit single Mango that introduced Sevana to the world. After Mango’s 2020 success, Sevana gained notoriety with hits like, Bit Too Shy, Nobody Man, and If Only You Knew.
Like if a modern Anita Baker was Jamaican and was creating music for Jamaica
Sevana’s music has been described as Reggae, Soul, and R&B as she floats between lofty vocals and vibrant Jamaican patois. Sevana blends traditional R&B / Soul with the Caribbean’s tropical percussive rhythms. End product is some of the most delightfully refreshing music you’ve heard. Brand New is an amazing exemplar of this.
Sevana describes her musical sound as “every sound but with a Jamaican filter. Like if a modern Anita Baker was Jamaican and was creating music for Jamaica“. She cites Celine Dion as her biggest influence and Beres Hammond as a source of inspiration. Brand New is the first of a string of releases from Sevana. She’s challenged herself to create a release as frequently as possible. “I’m going to release one single every other month, or I’m going to try”.
Sevana, with her silky vocals and soulful depth, is poised to break out this year and no doubt we can’t wait to follow her journey.
