A pioneer in the UK alternative sound of R&B, South London’s Kemi Ade is a masterful songstress with an impeccable pen to match. Her rich husky tone complemented with thumping bass lines and vulnerable lyrics make for an unique asset in the British R&B scene. Having started her career in the heart of 90’s R&B and at the cusp of the rise and rise of the 200’s sound, Ade is a pioneer in the so-called “Lo-Fi R&B” sound. Her voice can be described as a rich husky hypnotising tone paired with 90’s synths & New-Era Funk basslines, something she believes set her apart from the “masses”. With influences ranging from Jill Scott and Erykah Badu, to Ne-Yo & Musiq Soulchild, Kemi brings a different voice to the Black British female experience.
Late 2020 to early 2021, she delivered a double-sided EP with DRIVE (Dawn Edition) and DRIVE (Dusk Edition). Drenched in elements of 90s electronic and R&B with a sense of vulnerability, the track sees Kemi verbally wrestling with a potential lover. Kemi decided to take a brief hiatus. During which she penned hits for artists such as BSHP and Rebecca Garton. And now with her newly acquired skills, Kemi is ready to take the R&B world by storm.
