ENNY Keisha's and Brenda's New RnB New Soul Music

Fresh off the recent release of her debut EP Under Twenty Five, ENNY is back with a new single Keisha’s & Brenda’s. It’s been a whirlwind ride in the last year for the Thamesmead musician, since the release of her breakout single Peng Black Girls in 2020. Going from strength to strength, Keisha’s & Brenda’s is the follow up single to Same Old and I Want off the EP.

Like Peng Black Girls, the track shares a strong and important message. Deeply touching, it speaks on the obstacles women face on a daily basis, ranging from sexism and sexual abuse.

… I was annoyed because it felt like there was nothing else I could do but be angry. Angry for the victims, angry that people have to carry the weight of something so traumatic with no absolution...

– ENNY

Speaking on the track ENNY explains, “I wrote Keisha’s and Brenda’s back in 2018 during a time where many industry professionals were beginning to get exposed for indecent behaviour with women. It wasn’t a topic I was unfamiliar with. It was another reminder of the world we live in. And at this point I was annoyed because it felt like there was nothing else I could do but be angry. Angry for the victims, angry that people have to carry the weight of something so traumatic with no absolution.”

But she adds, “The last year or so has started to feel like a turning point. Women are speaking up, people are coming forward and telling their stories more freely, there’s a championing behind one another and I wanted the video to reflect that. You don’t have to be silenced. Speaking your truth is sometimes the first step. Taking back ownership of your voice. Taking off the tape.”

ENNY once again, displays her ability to paint pictures lyrically, on hard-hitting topics in the most eloquent ways. And this is a trait that genuinely makes her a stand out artist on the rise. Her ability to provide substance in her music across an array of topics and angles is simply impeccable.

The visual for the single is as equally compelling. The theme of female empowerment is brought to life by using a striking black & white aesthetic. With scenes of many women and men standing in solidarity. ENNY is easily one of the most interesting artists doing it right now, with a huge ceiling of potential still left to uncover.
