Manchester-born singer, Pip Millett, is back with her first offering in 2021 with the new emotive single ‘Running’. The single fittingly features one of the most respected names in UK rap, Ghetts.
Pip Millett has become a pivotal voice within the UK’s ever-evolving Soul / R&B scene and a collaboration such as this only further cements her reputation in the scene right now. Speaking on the track she adds, “‘Running’ is about the tiresome reality of being black / a POC in an unequal white western world.”
Sonically, Pip does what she does best. Vividly storytelling through her lyrics, fused with her smooth angelic vocals and harmonic transitions. The airy produced hip-hop drum led beat, works wonderfully well for Pip, as well as, Ghetts who provides yet another stellar verse touching on the Black experience. Heartfelt lyrics such as, “Black and free, I don’t think that’s a thing” truly hits home and again showcase Pip Millett’s versatility as an allround artist.
And just like the single, the visual is just as striking. Elements of confusion and entrapment are on show throughout, helping to add to the importance of the message behind the track even further.
