The ever-rising and exceptional voice that is Dutch-Sudanese singer-songwriter Gaidaa, this week dropped the official video to her single, ‘Stranger’. The track is from her delightful breakout EP, Overture that dropped in July 2020.
Blessed with a warm, smokey soulful tone, Gaidaa’s melodic harmonies alongside her brilliant lyrical ability to storytell completely shine through on ‘Stranger’ (and Overture for that matter). ‘Stranger’ was also included in Apple Music’s Best Songs of 2020 playlist. It’s a soul-searching letter to her younger self and the striking visuals bring this home.
‘Stranger’, produced by Jarreau Vandal, provides a chilled, laid back soulful canvas off which Gaidaa simply floats. Plus to cap this all off is a dope verse from Chicago rapper, Saba, who drops an elite introspective verse.
Speaking to The FADER, Gaidaa shared: “… ‘Stranger’ is a song about navigating the personal challenges of finding one’s truth and identity in a world that’s constantly asking you to have an answer. It’s about catching yourself in the midst of change and growth and somehow learning to trust both yourself and the process.”
