The versatile producer, artist, saxophonist hailing from the musical melting pot of South London, Solaariss, this week released a new single, Up Until Recently. His musical journey thus far has been eclectic, to say the least. Raised in Gospel and then experimenting his sound into Jazz with numerous influences on that journey.
The 21 year old likes to mesh a variety of genres, with what he calls ‘Alternative R&B Fusion’. It makes for a really memorable musical experience for listeners. Up Until Recently is a prime example of this as its fusion of sounds effortless blend well together all around. Speaking on the track’s inspiration, he added, “The inspiration for the track came to me at beginning of lockdown. It was a time where things really came to a halt for me so I was able to sit down and actually reflect for once, one of those things being a past close friendship.”
A theme that strikes throughout the track is Solaariss’ chilled-yet-soulful vocals blending fantastically well over an array of rhythmic melodies. Production-wise, the track is wonderfully refreshing, with its up-tempo beat aesthetic. It speaks to the message of the song. “One thing I’d say to take from this song is to be there for your loved ones, for real. Friends, family, people who might need someone, be there for them. Sometimes it might feel draining, be selfless for a sec, there’s joy in helping people”.
We are certainly feeling Up Until Recently and its authentic vibes of upliftment during such dark times is something we can all genuinely relate to. Solaariss is definitely an artist we will be keeping close tabs on and look forward to seeing how his artistry continually evolves. Listen to the track above
