There’s nothing like watching an artist on the come up. This week, Yas VW steps into the forefront with her debut single Weakness.
The talented 21-year-old singer/songwriter describes her sound Jhene Aiko meets young Janet Jackson. Something which is sonically evident on this single as she paints pictures throughout lyrically. The track touches on the feeling of a relationship slipping away and when the love no longer feels as it initially did. Her relatable storytelling on the track is truly captivating accompanied by an R&B trap-infused beat making for a brilliant musical recipe from start to finish.
Yas further explains, “‘Weakness’ is a song that focuses on the brokenness of a person in love. Their perspective on a relationship is now guided by their fear of possibly being hurt again and in this song, I am telling them I can bring them back to strength if they let their guard down.”
Music has been something close to Yas throughout most of her life. Having learned the guitar and piano at a young age, as well as dancing, her creative flair led her to perform locally at festivals and gigs around London. In addition, she was raised on the 80s & 90s R&B which will certainly have an impact on her sound going forward. Yas’ talent as a songwriter is evident, having penned the entirety of her debut single herself. And this is set to be the way on her forthcoming follow-up project. We are definitely feeling weak for Weakness and look forward in anticipation of what she offers us next!
Without a doubt, Yas WV is one to keep an eye on for 2020 and beyond.
