The soulfully talented Joya Mooi is back with her second single of 2020, Good Girl.
As ever, Joya illustrates her very soulful tone on the track with organic Neo-Soul vibes throughout. Good Girl is extremely catchy and a sure fit for any Neo-Soul playlist. Yet the production leans towards Hip-Hop with its trap-inspired drums.
The single has a very end of summer feel and the video takes it to a new level. The laid back chilled, everyday aesthetics come across very organically. Interestingly, it was shot in South London, with the premise being very much a day in the life of Joya with her friends.
Speaking on the influence for the single, she adds,“‘Good Girl’ is an ode to disobedience. We’re moulded from an early age to behave, not to cuss, be slightly attractive – but not too much. I think when I was young I could feel the subtleties, the ways I felt restrained. Still sadly enough I think I still internalised some. These patriarchal manners suppress self-expression and emancipation.”
Definitely a strong offering from an artist to watch.
