Pip Millett has long been on the rise. The 22-year-old Manchester-based songstress is another rising star from the UK Neo-Soul solar system, and this week blessed the universe with a new single, Stupid People.
The UK Soul scene in 2020 is stacked with talent, yet Pip has maintained the ability to make herself stand out consistently. Having released two very impressive EPs, Do Well and, most recently, Lost In June in April.
Stupid People finds Pip painting the picture of a past love and how in spite of missing this love, leaving things as they were was the best decision. Speaking on the track she explains, “It’s about longing for the old and then realizing it was s**t anyway, and feeling kinda stupid for ever wanting it at all.”
Stupid People comes with an interesting and very well shot video. Visually, we are taken to a warm sun-splashed countryside where Pip and two other couples appear to be going through the ups and downs of a relationship.
As per usual, vocally, Pip is exceptionally captivating. Singing with such calmness and clarity, she creates an atmosphere like only she does. She cements the mood with the vividness of her lyrics.
It remains to be seen whether Stupid People is a one-off single or possibly the bridge to her first full-length project. Still, we are definitely enjoying all Pip Millett has offered this year.
