The uber talented Ego Ella May this week released yet another beautiful single, Give A Little. With her debut album Honey For Wounds coming soon, this is a nice preview of what we can expect on its much-anticipated release. The single’s release is a timely response to the call for racial equality for black people we’ve seen this past week. We all need to Give A Little.
Give A Little is another reminder of why Ego Ella May is a true artist. She creates intentional art in her very own way. Following on from Girls Don’t Always Sing About Boys, it’s another song explicitly not about love. It touches on the importance of self and being comfortable with the many facets of oneself. “Give A Little’ is about being sick of your own sh*t, and hoping something will give and it will all make sense. It’s about feeling like something’s got to give… Like there needs to be a silver lining because why tf do I keep making silly mistakes in life.”
As always, Ego Ella May whilst creating music based on her own experiences and thoughts has the ability to majestically make you feel a part of it. Her deeply reflective honesty provides art which truly resonates. Sonically, Give A Little leans towards slow-tempo chilled out Neo-Soul with Jazz-infused segments throughout. It’s a relaxed and melodic backdrop very fit for these times.
