The hugely talented singer-songwriter that is Joyce Wrice returned this week with her first single since 2018 ‘That’s On You’. The independent LA based artist, released her first solo EP, Stay Around, in 2016. In recent years, she has collaborated with Westside Gunn, Asher Roth, Free Nationals and Devin Morrison to name a few, makes her well awaited single return with a big impact.
‘That’s On You’ produced by Austin Brown tells a story of the kind of love where you question if the time and effort was worth it. “I’ve grown a lot these past few years and have new stories to tell on my journey of self-discovery and of course, love…!”.
The track bares all as Joyce lyrically and vocally dazzles over an effortlessly soothingly soulful backdrop. That said, the track’s punchy bassline and rhythmic guitar makes it an earworm record. Plus Joyce’s riffs and harmonies are very reminiscent of the golden era of 90s R&B. The blend of current and nostalgic vibes ring true throughout.
