Frank Ocean finally speaks
Notorious recluse, but musical genius, Frank Ocean finally spoke to John Caramanica of The New York Times for his first major interview in years. The interview covered a wide range of topics and was a rare insight to the man behind the music himself.
Highlights include:
1. Frank left the public eye and escaped to his hiding place in London in 2013 because he felt he had to escape issues in both his personal and professional life, as well as, feelings of isolation
2. Blonde was born from a broken year-long spell of writer’s block after reuniting with a childhood friend. The reunion inspired Frank to write about his childhood
3. Frank now owns all the rights to his music, after a fraught negotiation with Def Jam to buy back his rights to all of his music
4. He decided not to submit his albums for Grammy consideration as a protest to the fact that the “infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system” as it “just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from”
5. He hasn’t been in ‘lasting’ love since 2012
