3. Artists take a stand for #BlackLivesMatter
Following the tragic deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile last week, several artists voiced their thoughts in word and music.
Beyoncé released a letter via her website, calling all to action and observed a moment of silence in honour of victims of police brutality.
Meanwhile, her husband, Jay-Z released his first single in 3 years, Spiritual, expressing disappointment at the repeated instances of violence and injustice.
Miguel released How Many via SoundCloud, asking “How many black lives does it take to make a change?”. The singer explained, “This version was started (written/recorded) here in London in my hotel room between the hours of 4am and around 7am when i passed out. ill update this song every week until its complete. Please feel free to share. #blacklivesmatter“. Listen below
Similarly, Chris Brown released two tracks, A lot of love and My Friend on SoundCloud looking to inspire hope through the madness.
Finally, earlier last week, PJ Morton released a video for his single, Sticking to my guns. The video features a strong message in support of Black Lives Matter and couldn’t have had a more timely release.

Alicia Keys’ ‘We are Here’ organisation has released a video calling the people and government of the US to action. The video is titled ’23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America’ and features celebrities listing the ways in which 23 black Americans have been killed by police officers. Watch above.
