3. Chrisette Michele’s Milestone
One of Soul music’s more established artigé’s, Chrisette Michele released an independent album on her Rich Hipster label. The album, Milestone, is her latest release since 2014’s The Lyricist’s Opus and show’s a very different side to Chrisette from that work which showed Chrisette channeling a very artistic, classical music-inspired sound. Milestone is one for the contemporary R&B fan – with more trap-inspired tracks (Diamond Letter, Steady), the type of hip hop collaborations that have given her the most chart-success (Equal) and love-themed songs that appear to be odes to her November engagement (Meant To Be, Soulmate, Unbreakable). Trappy / hip hop beats are a common thread throughout, as is Chrisette’s signature vocal agility and range. There are some less than rousing moments in the later part of the record, but all in all, a good listen, with some great moments.
