A playlist of soul music infused with the best of Pop Music guilty pleasure feels. For upbeat moments. Featuring Lizzo, Samm Henshaw, Kehlani, Elle Varner, Sasha Keable and more.
So this week, we’re bringing you a playlist of our favourite Pop Soul smashes. Now you may be wondering what Pop Soul is. Truth is, we don’t know for sure that it’s a thing thing, but it’s the best term we have for a strand of music that is definitely Soulful and rightly sits in the Soul music genre, but is infectiously upbeat, giving us that feel good vibe.
That leads quite nicely to the inspiration for this week’s Mood playlist. Last week, Minneapolis rapper and singer, Lizzo, released the video for her latest single Good as hell, one of such infectiously upbeat feel good songs. The song is featured on the Barbershop: The Next Cut soundtrack and is an anthem for self-love and individuality.
Lizzo is an alternative hip hop artist with killer pipes. She raps, she sings, she does pop records – basically she can’t be put in a box. She’s a musician first and the form she uses to express herself is simply a medium for channeling her mood and feelings at any given time. We’re first and foremost lovers of music, so we love it!
The playlist also features some more conventional, but equally talented Soul singers. Make sure to check out Samm Henshaw, British singer-songwriter with some of the best vocals we’ve heard in a while. His single Our Love is a super-catchy summer jam that we expect to hear on the radio soon. Also check out Bibi Bourelly, a truth-telling, straight-talking, singer-songwriter with song-writing credits for Lil Wayne and Rihanna (she wrote Bitch Better Have My Money). Listen to her E.P released earlier this month, Free The Real, here.
The playlist also features some R&B / Soul staples – Jazmine Sullivan, Elle Varner, Sasha Keable, Kehlani and Christina Augilera. This is one for your pre-Friday-night-out moments. Rock out and enjoy!
